I've been in Chicago for two years now, but I've only got two more to go. I feel like I haven't done enough of the touristy things that every Chicagoan should experience. Yes, I've seen the Bean, Shedd Aquarium, Navy Pier, the Hancock Building. I've shopped the Magnificent Mile, seen a Chicago play, ice-skated at Millennium Park. I've been on the El countless times, been to the beach on the Lakeshore, eaten deep-dish pizza.
But, alas, there are obviously holes in my Chicago experience. Here are some of the things I hope to accomplish this year while here in the Windy City. Wish me luck and, if you're a native Chicagoan, give me suggestions on what else to add to my list!
Yep. This will be my year.

I have a similar list for things to do here in Charlottesville! Little none fact, it has more restaurants per capita than NYC..and they are all amazing!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! You must go to amazing restaurants all the time then. Chicago has a varied restaurant scene, but I'm sure we're nowhere close to having as many as NYC and Charlottesville.
DeleteGo to the Museum of Science and Industry.
ReplyDeleteTake a water taxi ride.
Also get out of the city and perhaps go to the Brat stop over the border in Kenosha Wisconsin.
They took us to the Museum of Science and Industry for orientation freshman year and I loved it! There are so many hands-on exhibits. Also, I'll have to check out the Brat Stop in Kenosha. I love brats, but I never know where to go to get one.

ReplyDeleteHave you enjoyed your time in Chicago so far? Because I'm thinking about going there for college even though I'm from NY. Do you think it's worth it? - amirajsfashiondiaries.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE Chicago. The public transit is great, the city is clean, there are tons of parks and green space everywhere AND we have Lake Michigan, which has beaches scattered alongside it. I've heard from others that they like Chicago more than NYC because it's less congested and cleaner, but I can't compare the two since the last time I was in NYC was when I was 10. I feel like we have all that New York has to offer, though! Email me or let me know if you have any specific questions about the city and I can try to answer them :)
DeleteI can so relate to this - I've lived in the same area for my whole life but haven't really done many for the touristy things on offer - this definitely needs to change! I may have to follow your lead and make this my year too :P
ReplyDeleteDo it! We can both have awesome years. Even if people tell you to stay away from all the touristy stuff in your city, I still find that it's worth it to see it in the end.
DeleteGood for you! That is an excellent list. Make your ride on the river the Architecture Tour - it's SO interesting, and a very fun time.
ReplyDeleteIf your parents come to visit, ask them to take you to Benny's Chop House. My husband go a few times a year as a special treat. It's absolutely the best meal I've eaten in my life, every time we go.
Enjoy your time in the Chi, it's a wonderful place! I love living in the 'burbs but visiting the city now and then reminds me how magical it is.

I've heard that the Architecture Tour is amazing, so it's something I definitely want to do, especially since I love learning the history about places. Benny's Chop House sounds so good! I would love to go there with my parents--maybe I'll ask them to take me towards the end of the semester as a done-with-finals present.
DeleteI know SO many people from the 'burbs and they all love it. I hope it's where I'll eventually end up. Living in the city is great, but eventually I'd like to settle down and have a family in the suburbs where I'll be close enough to visit Chicago now and then.
