I'm a popcorn connoisseur. Popcorn is my favorite snack, probably because my mom always told me it was healthy when I was little. I eat popcorn at the movies, at baseball games, in my dorm between classes. I always make sure I have a box of microwavable popcorn on hand. I even got a popcorn-making kit for Christmas--you know, the kernels that you bathe in oil and then put on the stove, waiting for them to pop? Yeah. I'm obsessed.
(I have this bowl. I'm not ashamed.)
So imagine how happy I was when I learned that Chicago is
famous for popcorn.
Garrett's Popcorn, that is. I was in heaven.
Garrett's Popcorn specializes in, duh, popcorn. All different flavors. Cheesy popcorn, chocolate popcorn, caramel popcorn, you name it. The problem is, all of its locations are downtown and whenever I go there, the line reaches out the door.
I finally got lucky going to Union Station on Thursday to catch my bus home. I grabbed a bag of the Chicago Mix, shoved it in my duffel bag praying it wouldn't spill all over, and took off. It was going to be my dinner if I didn't find a Subway.
Literally, it's the best popcorn I've ever tasted in my life. The Chicago Mix is caramel popcorn combined with cheesy popcorn. Sounds like a weird combination, but it's sooooo good. Whoever Garrett is, I want to marry him. The cheesy popcorn melts in your mouth, while the sweetness of the caramel popcorn makes you want to savor it. You have to eat both the caramel and cheesy kernels at once--it's the only way.
I'm using all of my strength not to eat more. My mom and I are going to a movie tonight and sneaking the popcorn in with us. All the others eating their regular ol' movie popcorn are going to be so jealous.
Moral of the story:
if you ever go to Chicago, go to Garrett's Popcorn. Or else. That is all.
P.S. Even Oprah approves! Like you needed any more incentives to go.
P.P.S. This is not an April Fools post. I really am that obsessed with popcorn. Give me a lifetime supply of popcorn and Sperrys, and I'll be set for life.
