"It's a Quote Kind of Day" + Crazy Dog T-Shirts Giveaway Winner

Giveaway winner at the bottom of this post!

Today was one of those days where I spent an hour on Pinterest pinning any quote that I could remotely apply to my life. Ever had one of those days where you just go on a pinning rampage?

I couldn't come up with anything good to post about today so you're lucky enough to get something personal from me. As you may or may not have seen, I'm working on research with a professor and some other students this summer this summer, using fish as our model organisms. It's completely out of my league, something I've never done before.

It's taken me awhile to get used to the lab and all the protocols, but I'm getting better each and every day. It's been tough for me because I am a perfectionist and, if I don't get something right the first time, I get a little frustrated with myself. It's definitely something I have to get over, but I'm getting better at it.

So that's why it's been a quote-kind-of-day. Because all of the above quotes keep reminding me why I'm doing all this: to become a doctor. To help people. To save people's lives.

And, in the meantime, being able to inject fish eggs with recombinant DNA is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, right?

  1. What you're doing sounds incredibly advanced and impressive! I would imagine it is difficult to learn! I understand being a perfectionist very well...I am one by nature (to the extreme) and used to be a ballet dancer, an environment that just pushes perfectionism even harder. It is good to stop and breathe and remember WHY you are trying to achieve and what will really matter in the end, otherwise it can suck your dreams right out of you.

    1. Wow, thank you so much for this comment! It really made my day. To me, being ballet dancer seems like it would be incredibly difficult...I can't imagine how much pressure you must've had on you. Thanks for the advice--you're right, in the midst of hard times, we just have to stop and take a deep breath and remember what really happens i the end.

    1. Yay, glad you enjoyed it! The balloon one is my favorite...that quote is from one of Eminem's songs, "Lose Yourself", and I always listen to it whenever I'm studying for a huge test.

  3. For the genetic recombination lab we only got to do a simulation, which was so interesting.
And all the quotes are so true. Love them.

    1. I had to take genetics last year and we tested genetic recombination in flies...we'd mate them, see what their phenotypes looked like and then extracted their DNA to study it in a gel. SO COOL! College is where you get to do stuff you never get a chance to do ever again, so if you're into science, you should definitely think about taking a science lab in college.
