My Family of Four-Eyes

This year marked a milestone in my family's life: 2012 is the first year where all four of us have to wear glasses!

My mom's been wearing glasses since she was around 7. She's changed frames throughout the years, but I love the ones she's wearing now.

Here's me wearing my glasses. Usually I wear contacts, but I love wearing my glasses on lazy days. My eyes have been "bad" since I was in 6th grade, when I first noticed that I couldn't see what the teachers were writing on the blackboard. Isn't that how everyone realizes they need glasses?

My dad was a little upset when he learned that he has to wear eyeglasses last winter. As a pilot, it's important that he keep up with his eyesight...just so, you know, the plane doesn't crash or anything...

And we come to my sister! (and my dad...being strange.) She just got her first eyeglasses prescription in July and will use them for her large lecture classes when she starts college in the fall.

So...what I am I getting at with this post? With all four of us wearing glasses, we need to find a better (and more inexpensive) place to buy our frames from--specifically, a place to buy glasses online.

GlassesUSA.com is a website that sells men's and women's glasses for guaranteed lowest prices. The website is so easy to use. You can search glasses based on their style: aviator style, wayfarer style, round frames, oval frames, and so on. Their section of vintage/retro frames is incredible! Already I've found a few frames to lust over.

The coolest part of this company! They have this Virtual Mirror app where you can take a photo of yourself with your webcam, then try on a bunch of glasses to see how they'll look on you. I don't know about you, but I hate trying on glasses at the optometrist...the worker there is always making suggestions and hovering over you. So I'm definitely loving this virtual mirror!

(forgive the messy hair and lack-of-makeup...it's one of those days!)

GlassesUSA is offering 10% off any order of prescription glasses for my readers with the code Blog10! Also, they are having a storewide offer where you can take 15% off your entire order + get free shipping on orders over $50.

Any of you wear glasses? Use the Virtual Mirror yourself and share pictures in the comments...I'd love to see what you all look like in glasses!

    1. Haha yeah, I'm glad he did too! Don't want him to be crashing any planes.

  2. That's really interesting. I have glasses but I only have to wear them when something is far- meaning that I never wear them because I don't feel that it's necessary, but when I decide to this will be really helpful. Also, I really like your blog especially since you're on the pre-med track and into fashion. How do you balance because I love fashion and I'm thinking about the medical field. But I want to do both. 1. I wish I only had to wear my glasses once in a while...I'm blind as a bat without them! That's so great that you're thinking about going into the medical field. It's been challenging, but I know it's going to be worth it in the end. Because I spent so much time studying, I decided to start a blog in order to give me something to do that wasn't science-related. During the school year I try to spend no more than an hour a day blogging/reading other blogs/creating Polyvore sets/etc. Then the rest of the time I go to class, study, do extracurriculars (oh, and SLEEP!) So I guess the balance is all about making sure I have time to do what I love...I can't study all the time, or I'd go crazy! There's so much else I could say, so if you have any questions feel free to ask me or email me =)

  3. I wish I wore glasses so I could get a cool pair. My mum wears glasses because she got jif in her eye when she was a kid. I think all of my grandparents have needed them so maybe I'll need them one day.

    1. I hate my eyesight, but getting to wear cool glasses is a good perk of it! I think everybody eventually needs glasses, or at least that's what I've been told :/ Kinda a bummer!

  4. I alternate between glasses and contacts but due to my laziness I wear the glasses by far the most. I'll have to try the Virtual Mirror--I'm due for new frames :)

    1. Laziness always prevails with me too! I think it's good once in a while to let your eyes "breathe" and not wear contacts, so I probably wear my glasses once a week or so.

  6. cute glasses (on all of you) but my favorite's are your sisters! I've always wanted glasses to make me look smart but I have good vision - so guess what? I bought fake glasses that I wear as accessories sometimes...rarely. because I never want to tell people they're fake when they say "oh I didnt realize you wear glasses" ha!!

    1. I'm so jealous of her glasses and wish I bought some like that! I was thinking of buying some fake glasses like that too to wear whenever I want to look smart. Of course, then I'll have a problem actually seeing! Hahaha sounds like you have fun faking people out with your glasses :)
